Novo Studio operates within the construction and building management industry, collaborating with major partners like ABB. Their challenge was to manage and integrate vast amounts of fragmented data across projects, teams, and organizations. They needed a centralized, intuitive system that would allow users—ranging from domain experts to field workers—to create, consume, and contribute knowledge seamlessly.

I was brought in to lead the design efforts for this 0-1 project, conceptualizing and prototyping the MVP of a new data visualization and app-building platform powered by Xeto, a robust type system designed to simplify app creation. The key objectives were the following:

• Generate structured views from data sets.

• Provide a workspace that adapts to company processes.

• Enable low-code/no-code app creation for businesses.

• Offer an interactive knowledge accumulation process for various user personas (Creators, Consumers, and Contributors).

• Allow partners like ABB to seamlessly connect their systems, enhancing collaboration and decision-making.

While this fast-paced project required a scrappy and adaptive approach—combining tailored design elements with existing component libraries to accelerate development—the framework successfully laid the foundation for future growth. It supports evolving business needs and seamlessly integrates new technologies, ensuring long-term scalability and adaptability.
